UD's Williams on player of year watch list

For the second consecutive season University of Dayton senior forward Colleen Williams was named to the Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List. She is among 38 female women’s soccer players named to the watch list for the 2012 season. The Flyers have had a player named to the list in four of the last five years.
The MAC Herman Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Williams is the lone Dayton Flyer and one of four Atlantic 10 players on the list, in which a total of 30 schools are represented.
Williams is coming off another banner year leading the Flyers with 16 goals and 47 points in 2011, good for fifth in the nation. She was also named first team all-conference, academic all-conference and Most Outstanding Player of the A-10 Championship.
The list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by November 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced December 6. The winners will be announced at the awards’ banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11.
Williams was also named to the list in 2011. Kathleen Beljan became the first female women’s soccer player named to the list in 2010. Alex Torda was the first Dayton male soccer player to ever be named to the Watch List in 2008.

The three-time defending Atlantic 10 tournament champion Flyers open the regular season on the road this Friday, Aug. 17 as they take on the Texas Longhorns. That game will be aired on Longhorn Network at 8 p.m. ET.
