UD fills out basketball coaching staff

Flyers reportedly will add Hofstra assistant and former Arkansas aide to men’s staff.

DAYTON — University of Dayton basketball coach Archie Miller reportedly has completed his initial staff.

Arkansas assistant Tom Ostrom and Hofstra assistant Allen Griffin have agreed to join the Flyers, according to Rivals.com. New hires typically must complete the human resources process before they are officially announced.

Miller did not return calls seeking comment and said through a spokesman that he could not talk about the hires.

Ostrom spent four seasons on the coaching staff at Arkansas and was with former Razorbacks coach John Pelphrey at South Alabama before they both moved to Arkansas. Also a former Florida assistant coach, Ostrom is a University of Minnesota graduate.

Griffin, a former standout at Syracuse, spent one season on the Hofstra staff. Before that, he coached at St. Francis (N.Y) College and at Providence.

Miller, who was hired as UD’s head coach April 3, added Ohio State staffer Kevin Kuwik to fill one assistant coach position two weeks ago. Virginia Tech assistant Adrian Autry, a former Syracuse star, then spurned the Flyers to take a position at his alma mater.
