“It was a nice feeling being there,” Sanford said Wednesday night while still in Dayton. “It really seemed comfortable, it’s a nice city.”
Sanford will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Although he played sparingly at the Big East school, Sanford had a standout high school career, averaging 22.4 points per game and being named first-team all-state by the Louisville Courier Journal.
Sanford had more than 15 scholarship offers as a senior, picking the Hoyas over Baylor, Iowa, Georgia and Charlotte.
The guard is the second recruit landed by new UD coach Archie Miller. Alexandre Gavrilovic, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from IMG Academy who played on the French U-20 national team last summer, committed to Dayton on May 12.
Sanford said he liked Miller’s style, which helped him choose Dayton.
“He’s a player’s coach, and he’s big into player development,” Sanford said.
