Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer responded to criticism on Tuesday from a University of Kentucky recruit who claimed Meyer and his staff treated him “like a piece of meat” and “like crap” during the recruiting process.
Landon Young, an offensive tackle from Lexington, Ky., made the comments last week to SECCountry.com.
“We have a lot of respect for him as a player,” Meyer said Tuesday. “I was very disappointed in our staff we didn’t offer him (a scholarship) earlier. About that treatment thing, we didn’t do that on purpose. I went back and talked to our staff. I don’t want that be out there.”
Meyer said it was one recruit out of 650 claiming the Buckeyes treated him poorly. Young said Meyer told him he was an “an insubstantial player with insubstantial offers from an insubstantial school” early in the recruiting process, and that’s why he didn’t get an offer from Ohio State right away.
