Notre Dame tight end transferring to Ohio State

Notre Dame tight end Chase Hounshell announced Monday on Twitter he is transferring to Ohio State. He can play in 2016 because he’s a graduate transfer.

Hounshell, who began his career as a defensive lineman, appeared in 13 games last season and made three starts. He had one catch. In 2014, he played in three games.

Hounshell missed all but one game in 2012 and the entire 2013 season because of a shoulder injury. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility because of the two missed seasons. He played in seven games and had four tackles as a freshman in 2011.

Hounshell is a 6-foot-4, 255-pound graduate of Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, Ohio. He originally committed to Urban Meyer when Meyer was the coach at Florida but changed his mind when Meyer stepped down as Florida coach.
