Dayton center McElvene sick, won’t play vs. George Mason

Dayton center Steve McElvene is sick with a virus and won’t play against George Mason on Saturday night.

McElvene averages 6.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He has 46 blocks, almost half the team’s total of 101. He has appeared in all 21 games. McElvene did make the trip with the team and will be on the bench at EagleBank Arena.

This will be the fourth game a regular member of Dayton’s rotation has missed since the start of A-10 play. Kendall Pollard missed two games with a strained Achilles tendon. Charles Cooke missed one game with a strained oblique.

Cooke won’t start against George Mason because of a team rules violation, according to UD, but he will play. Darrell Davis will take his place in the starting lineup. It will be his second start.

The Flyers are wearing gray uniforms for the first time ever.
