Cincinnati should be jealous of Royals’ hosting Bacon Day promotion

I've praised the Reds' marketing department for a couple of cool promotions this summer, but the Royals got the drop on them with this one:

Not only is celebrating International Bacon Day a cool promotion by itself, it’s one that screams, “CINCINNATI!”

How could the baseball team in a town once called “Porkopolis” for its propagation of packing plants not have come up with this first?

There are plenty of pork products available at the Great American Ball Park, but a celebration of cured pork bellies now, quite frankly, just feels long overdue.

Bobbleheads are nice (the Reds are giving away one of Eugenio Suarez that day, but so are the Royals), but what about “complementary bacon-centric bites and delicious libations”?

All of those can be had at Kauffman Stadium on Sept. 3, too.

First the 2015 World Series title and now this? The Royals are really on a roll (with bacon, lettuce and tomato, presumably).

I guess for Cincinnati, there’s always next year.
