Bengals’ Dalton giving back to Buffalo community that supported his foundation

Months after Andy Dalton hit Tyler Boyd for a touchdown on fourth down late in a Week 17 win over Baltimore to help Buffalo advance to the 2017 postseason, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback still gets praise from Bills fans whenever he comes across them.

The Ravens' loss meant Buffalo made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, and grateful Bills' fans showed their appreciation to Dalton by donating to his foundation, which supports children with physical challenges in Cincinnati and Fort Worth, Texas.

Now, he wants to do something to give back to the Buffalo community that seems to love him so much.

When the Bengals travel to play Buffalo in their third preseason game Sunday, Dalton’s wife, J.J., and their foundation board members will make the trip to provide a donation to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo in honor of the support they got from the city.

“Buffalo has given so much to us and our foundation at the end of last year, beginning of this year,” Dalton said Monday. “We are very appreciative of everything we received from them. We had over 17,000 donors and raised over $450,000 that can be traced back to Buffalo. We’re very thankful, so for us, we feel like it’s a good opportunity for us to give back to them and just to say thank you for how generous they were to us.”

Dalton joked that he wouldn’t be surprised to get a standing ovation Buffalo.

“I’ve heard I should run for mayor, I’ve heard I won’t have to pay for anything in Buffalo, so I may have to put it out there, ‘What’s the best wing spot to go to?’ and see how many people show up,” Dalton said.

He’s probably the most popular quarterback in Buffalo right now. Former Bengals backup AJ McCarron, who the Bills acquired this offseason, suffered a hairline fracture in his collarbone during a preseason game against the Browns on Friday.
