Dragons’ bats silenced by Great Lakes

MIDLAND, Mich. — The Dayton Dragons held the Great Lakes Loons to three hits only to lose 1-0 on Thursday, Aug. 19, when their offense managed just four.

Loons starter Greg Wilborn fired seven shutout innings and did not allow a runner past second base until there were two outs in the seventh. Reliever Steve Ames was similarly effective over the final two innings.

The lack of offense handed Dayton starter Tim Crabbe (2-6) a hard-luck loss after he allowed a run on three hits over five innings.

Great Lakes only moved one runner past second base, but that runner scored the game’s only run in the fifth when Rafael Ynoa walked, went to third on a single to right by Jaime Ortiz and scored on Brian Ruggiano’s sacrifice fly.

The Dragons had a man at third in the seventh. Henry Rodriguez (two hits) singled to right and went to second on a one-out wild pitch. He went to third when Frank Pfister flied out to right but he was stranded there.
