Background/Overview:

Rob Koons and Sharry Haerr lived down the street from each other, while growing up in Northridge. They used to ride their bikes through the neighborhoods, often passing this “Short Stop” grocery store on their way to the Dairy Queen Ice Cream Shop.

The teenage couple graduated from Kenton Ridge High School, before marrying in the early 1980s. Now, they have three grown children and four grandchildren. Later, she remarried someone else; however, Rob and Sharry continue a positive working relationship.

He’s spent his adulthood in the food-service industry and she worked for Big Bear Stores for 28 years. In April 2000, this “Short Stop” was forced to close by the previous owner. Rob and Sharry stepped in for transfer of its title, and the keys were exchanged without any hiatus of its business.

They re-named it “KNS Short Stop”; “KNS” is an abbreviation for Rob’s last name “Koons.” It remained a small grocery store/convenient mart, that incidentally began selling pizzas and subs! Later, an adjoining portion of the building was decorated as “KNS Short Stop Italian Restaurant.”

Rob works full time at KNS Short Stop/Italian Restaurant and Sharry is the backbone of the business. Koons realizes that these days social media has changed the face of their entire food-service operations. Connecting with their customers through networking sites is the norm for efficiency and time management in every function of their work.

Nevertheless, they and their General Manager Jodi Walter are specific that the fresh cheeses, meats, and vegetables are cut deli-style everyday to showcase their ultimate quality. The KNS Short Stop Italian Restaurant slogan is “A Slice A Day Keeps The Sad Away!”
