An Oregon District restaurant is extending its hours and mixing things up behind the bar.
Salar Restaurant and Lounge, 400 E Fifth St., just announced that its main bar will now remain open until midnight Friday and Saturday.
“Salar will have a “late-night speakeasy vibe,” according to a press release from the business.
Its side door on Fifth Street will be used as an entrance for the bar-only service.
Live music will be featured on holidays, Oregon District events, Downtown Dayton Partnership's First Friday and other special occasions.
The restaurant’s kitchen will close at 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Margot Blondet, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Lima, Peru, opened Salar in 2013 at the former site of Sidebar.
It reopened in fall of 2018 after it and a half-dozen other businesses closed when they received major smoke and/or fire damage during a blaze early Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.

In addition to the extended hours, Salar recently launched a Happy Hour menu to celebrate the coming of spring. The menu features cocktails for $8.75 and light bar bites for $7 or less.
Food options include spicy orange pork with fried pork tenderloins with tangy carrot slaw for $5, Chicken Skewers with green onion, aji amarillo salsa and jasmine rice for $6 and fish tacos with guajillo and apple salsa, roasted garlic aioli, arugula and pickled onions for $7.
Salar’s happy hour exclusive cocktails include a classic old fashioned, margarita, Moscow mule, vodka raspberry gimlet and strawberry daiquiri, the press release says.
Other drink options include $5 red or white house wine and $1 off all beer both bottled or on draft.
Happy Hour is Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for customers seated at either of Salar’s two full-service bars.
