MASSARELLI, Emily "Lee"


1935-2021


Emily Lucille Hogan Massarelli, 85, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away on January 11, 2021. She was born July 20, 1935, in Springfield, Ohio, the oldest of two children to Frank and Madeline Hogan. Her brother is Phil Hogan of Dunnellon, Florida. Emily graduated in 1953 from Harriet Whitney Vocational Technical High School, Toledo, Ohio. After graduation Emily was employed by Ohio Bell, in Toledo. Later when she relocated to Hamilton, Ohio she was employed by Ohio Casualty Insurance Company. Her husband of 34 years died in 1990. Frank Massarelli was the love and joy of her life. Emily and Frank met in Hamilton, Ohio in 1955. Emily ultimately moved from Toledo to Hamilton to be with Frank. Emily and Frank were married August 18, 1956. Once Emily moved to Hamilton, she preferred to go by the name "Lee". All of her Hamilton friends knew her as "Lee". Emily was a wonderful mother to their four children. Emily spent years caring for her husband and her parents. She was the ultimate caregiver to all. She was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, Ohio, active church member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Lifelong member of the Queen of Peace Homemakers, with so many dear friends. Emily and her entire family lived in Queen Acres for over 30 years. Emily and Frank for many years enjoyed large family holiday celebrations; they enjoyed entertaining at their home. They also enjoyed traveling together. Emily had a passion for travel, education and reading. She enjoyed fine dining, shopping and spending time with friends and family. Her travels were throughout the United States, and included New England, San Diego, California, Las Vegas, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Spain and Northern Europe. Also several different cruise ships. She was always ready for another adventurous trip. She was an avid card player including one group of friends for over 50 years. She always enjoyed a good book club with close friends. Emily spent numerous years volunteering for the Butler County Board of Elections. Emily's later years were at Berkeley Square Hamilton, Ohio. Thank you to all the wonderful care providers at Berkeley Square. She is survived by her children, Susan Roark (Dennis), Hamilton, Ohio; Lisa Redden (Patrick) Henderson, Nevada; Joanne Parra (Frank) Jacksonville, Florida, and Joseph Massarelli (Corey) Beavercreek, Ohio. She will be dearly missed by her nine grandchildren: Tyler, Alexis, Charlie, Ross, Rosella, Isabella, Owen, Sam and Noelle and her two great-grandchildren, Walker and MaryKate, who she loved like her own. Due to concerns for public health, services will be private. A Prayer Service will be broadcast by live stream on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 1:00 PM on her obituary at www.browndawsonflick.com. Memorial donations may be gifted to St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton, Ohio.
