CHEWNING, Thelma Lucinda

Age 86 of Franklin, Ohio, passed away January 2nd, 2021, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was born on April 5th, 1934, in Cassity, WV, the daughter of Arnsley B. and Leona Grace (Woods) Reeder who preceded her in death. Thelma is also preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, Orval "Sonny" Chewning, as well 8 older brothers and sisters, and beloved dog Tillie.

Growing up her family traveled to neighboring churches to sing and perform gospel music. She was able to play multiple instruments including banjo, guitar, piano, organ, and others. Her proudest achievement was receiving her G.E.D. from

Middletown High School. Thelma and Sonny moved to

Franklin to raise their three sons: Orval "Butch", Timothy, and David. She worked as a cook for over 20 years at Franklin City Schools before retiring in 1989. Thelma and Sonny raised

various animals over the years and enjoyed tending a large family garden. Considered an expert at "down home"

cooking, Thelma loved canning and preserving the annual harvest every year. In her free time, she enjoyed embroidery and quilting, making dozens of beautiful gifts for family and friends.

Her greatest joy in life was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Grandma always kept some treats waiting for them when they came over. There was hardly a conversation without them being mentioned.

Thelma was known as being strong-willed and stubborn. There was not much you could tell her she could not do, |because she generally found a way to do it regardless. Even after multiple strokes and a broken leg, she could not be slowed down! Her strength was remarkable.

She is survived by her three sons; Butch (Vicki) Chewning, Timothy (Sheri) Chewning, and David (Leota) Chewning, along with grandchildren; David Ryan (Brenda) Chewning, Tiffany (Chris) Baker, Emily (Sean) Buffington, Jessica (Travis) Banks, and McKenzie Hayes, and great-grandchildren; Jordan, Madelynn, Loralie, Ella, Elijah and Hudson.

She is now reunited with Sonny, as well as many family members and friends in Heaven.

A visitation for Thelma will be held Monday, January 11th, 2021, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E 2nd St, Franklin, OH. Following, a graveside service will be held at Woodhill Cemetery at 12:30pm, 6228 Hamilton-Middletown Rd, Franklin, OH.
