How Can I Find an Affordable and Legit Online School?
Tim from Georgia asks: "I've heard you a few times in the past few months say to consider skills and knowledge that may be outside of a career job position.
That opened my mind to broaden my horizons and apply for a job outside my “perpetual frustration” day job. I applied for an opening as an engineering technician for materials and I got the job! I start next week.
Along with a thank you, I have a question about furthering my education: If I’d like to start taking classes eventually to get an engineering degree in this field, where do I start looking for affordable and legit online schools?”
Clark’s Take on How To Find Good Online Schools
Clark says: "There are a lot of free classes that you can take online, but they will not lead to a degree."
Clarks notes that the education system has pivoted in the COVID-19 pandemic, so now there are more opportunities to earn a degree online through a state university or college.
“Often if you take courses online at the state college level vs. state university level, in-state, your tuition will be extremely low.
And who knows? Your employer may really need those engineering skills and may offer you a subsidy for the tuition,” Clark says.
Clark says there are also new educational benefits available through employers for attending college as well as for other kinds of education and training.
U.S. News and World Report has a list of accredited online schools. You can search by degree, category and subject to find a program that fits you.
