Springfield police are investigating after a house was reportedly shot by gunfire early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday to the 20 block of East Singer Street on a report of a house being struck by gunfire several times, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they found several bullet holes through the front of the house, which is double.

A resident of one side of the house said she was upstairs around 2:10 a.m. when she heard a loud vehicle outside, so she looked and saw a gray Jeep Cherokee with black rims drive past her house, the report stated.

“Two minutes later she heard the Jeep Cherokee’s loud exhaust and then several gunshots. When looking out the window, she saw the gray Jeep Cherokee driving away,” the report stated.

The resident said she was aware of someone who was driving the same Jeep, but advised police to talk to the resident of the other side of the double regarding the incident.

When police spoke to that resident, he would not provide much information other than this incident possibly stems from another incident involving someone he knows, the report stated.

Officers found six 9mm shell casings in the street in front of the house as well as several rounds shot into each side of the double.

No other suspect or witness information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
