Schneider will debut a new holiday ornament depicting a historical landmark in Clark County. It is the fifth ornament in a series that coincides with Holiday in the City.
“I wanted to do historic structures in Springfield, but I don’t want to do anything that will divide Springfield,” he said.
“I’d really like to do the old Springfield High School, but I don’t want people to say, ‘You did South High, but you didn’t do North High.’ I try and keep it neutral.”
Schneider has designed and engraved the glass ornaments since 2009. Past ornaments include the old City Hall building, the Bushnell Building, Warder Library, and the Madonna of the Trail.
“This year I asked Elaine Morris Roberts (interim executive director of the Springfield Center City Association) what she thought, and together we decided on the State Theater.”
Schneider uses a laser to engrave the ornaments and can do up to five at a time.
“I love laser engraving,” said Schneider. “Of all the things I do here, that’s the most challenging.”
He said some types of glass are more difficult to engrave than others, but the glass ornaments, which are made in the United States, are of a better quality and engrave easily.
Both Schneider and Roberts said this year’s ornament will be well received by the people of Springfield, but Schneider has “no expectations” on sales.
“If I sell five, then there are five lucky people. If I sell 1,000, then there are 1,000 lucky people.”
The new ornament will be available through Christmas at CLS Graphics, located at 26 N. Fountain Ave., behind Rose City Gold. Each ornament costs $10.
Past ornaments can also be ordered.
