News-Sun moves to One South Limestone building

Editor, assistant editor named

The Springfield News-Sun has moved to the One South Limestone building and has announced the naming a new editor and assistant editor.

Cox Media Group Ohio, parent company of the News-Sun, announced the completion of the sale of the newspaper’s downtown building to a local developer in February. The company had previously announced its intention to sell the building last year and signed a tentative agreement with Lagos Apartments IV Inc. Property in December.

Cox Media Group Ohio leased its new space on the 10th floor at One South Limestone building. The offices will be home to the news and sales staff members who represent the News-Sun, WHIO-TV and radio, Springfield B2B magazine and the company’s digital sites.

The new mailing address for the News-Sun is: 1 S. Limestone St., Suite 1010, Springfield, OH 45502. All previous phone numbers and email addresses to contact the News-Sun remain the same.

The News-Sun is planning a community open house this spring to show its new offices to the community.

Samantha Sommer has been named editor of the newspaper and coordinates coverage with WHIO TV. Sommer first joined the News-Sun in 2001 as a news reporter. She began serving as assistant editor in 2011 and then as a shared content manager for Cox Media Group Ohio in July 2013, coordinating story planning across the TV, print, radio and digital platforms.

She returned to the News-Sun as editor in March.

“I’m excited to continue the long tradition of strong journalism in Springfield,” Sommer said.

Kermit Rowe has been named assistant editor. Rowe was the sports editor for the paper for 12 years before becoming to a story editor for CMG Ohio in April 2012 before assuming his new position in March.

Previous News-Sun Editor Ben McLaughlin is now managing a cross-platform team of reporters in the Dayton newsroom for WHIO TV and the Dayton Daily News.
