Wright State provost a finalist for Montana State president

FAIRBORN — Wright State University’s provost is a finalist to become the president of Montana State University.

Steven R. Angle, Wright State provost since 2007, is one of three finalists announced Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to the Associated Press.

The finalists also include Waded Cruzado-Salas, executive vice president and provost of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., and Steven Leath, vice president of research and sponsored programs at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Montana State, located in Bozeman, expects to have its new president in place by the start of 2010, according to the Associated Press. MSU President Geoff Gamble announced his retirement in March, but will stay in office until a successor is found. The school had nearly 12,300 students in fall 2008.

Angle became Wright State’s provost and chief academic officer in March 2007. He replaced David R. Hopkins, who became Wright State’s president.

Angle previously served as dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at University of California Riverside.

Michele Wheatly, dean of the Wright State College of Science and Mathematics, recently was named as a finalist for the provost position at West Virginia University.
