Wright State to address area problems in online forum

FAIRBORN — Wright State University will seek solutions for issues facing the Dayton region in a “virtual brainstorming session” on Monday, Nov. 16.

Wright State’s “Day of Innovation” will invite community members to address area problems and pose possible solutions in an online forum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dayton-area residents can participate from their home or office computers, or at one of several brainstorming kiosks in the university’s Student Union atrium.

“Innovation is at the core of Wright State’s mission and we hope the community will join us in this special opportunity to generate the questions that will lead to a better future,” said David R. Hopkins, university president.

Starting at 11 a.m. questions about human-centered innovation — how we shape technology and how it impacts us — will be posed at www.wright.edu/innovation. Questions on the themes of technology, health care, education and quality of life will posted every 30 minutes.

Eric D. Fingerhut, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, will help to launch the event at a news conference at 10:30 a.m. in the atrium. Fingerhut will make an announcement at that time, according to university officials.

Hopkins will present a summary of the virtual brainstorming session at 5:30 p.m. in the atrium.

The event will culminate at 7 p.m. with a lecture by Peter Hancock, head of the Minds in Technology/Machines in Thought laboratory at the University of Central Florida. An expert on the relationship between humans and technology, Hancock will speak as part of Wright State’s Presidential Lecture Series.

Hancock’s lecture in the Student Union Apollo Room is free and open to the public.
