Woman gets caught under tractor mower

An 84-year-old woman lost a portion of her leg Saturday, June 26, when she was pulled underneath a Bush Hog mower at 4895 Old Mill Road.

The woman, Mary Gipson, was flown in critical condition to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by CareFlight, said Chief Heather Kaufman of the Hustead EMS Department.

The woman’s son, David Gipson, was riding the mower about 6:15 p.m. when she brought him water, Kaufman said.

According to a Clark County Sheriff's Department report "...she leaned on the rear tractor tire for balance. Mr. Gibson moved the gear shifter into gear, but kept his foot on the clutch. However, the tractor lunged forward causing her to lose her balance and fall under the mower. The blades were still activated at this time and the injury was sustained."

Mary Gipson is listed in critical condition.
