Viewer captures video of funnel cloud, NWS confirms

This video sent in to WHIO from Stacey  Longstreath shows a funnel cloud that developed in northern Champaign County at around 7:45pm.

Another call from a viewer into WHIO-TV also spotted the cloud formation near River Road in Urbana.

Stormcenter 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell and the National Weather Service have reviewed the video, and confirmed that a funnel cloud was observed.

Elwell said a heavy rain shower developed in the county at around 7:40 pm and lifted north into Logan County before dissipating at around 8:45pm. No warnings were issued for the storm. Elwell said while the video does appear to show a rotating cloud, it is likely the rotation was very weak with wind gusts at the surface possibly as high as 45mph.

The Storm Prediction Center does have all of the Miami Valley under a “marginal risk” for severe storms tonight.
