Man charged with OVI after crashing into Springfield tire shop

A 52-yea-old Springfield man is facing multiple charges after crashing a pickup truck into a tire shop Monday morning.

Scott Lucas is facing OVI, failure to control and failure to stop after an accident.

He will be arraigned on the charges Tuesday morning.

Lucas was released from the hospital this morning.

A local tire shop suffered substantial damage after a pickup truck crashed into it in a suspected OVI crash early Monday morning, authorities said.

According to Springfield police, the driver, who was reportedly under the influence, crashed into Jim’s Tire & Service, located at 1936 Lagonda Avenue, around 1:45 a.m.

An officer came across the crash while patrolling the area.

The male driver, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, though his injuries are non-life threatening, police said.

He has not been formally charged in the crash.

Damage estimates were not immediately available, though there is a massive hole where the truck went through.

It is unclear if the shop will be open for business.
