A wine bar specializing in low intervention wines is expected to open the first week of April in COhatch The Market.

Cork + Board will not only serve wine, but educate customers on the full wine experience, owner Amanda Ortega said.

“I’m excited about sharing my passion for the wines that I’ve been learning about and pushing wine drinkers’ experiences to the next level,” Ortega said.

The idea behind “the tiniest little wine bar/shop” came about when Ortega started narrowing down the kinds of wines she was drinking.

Ortega explained she started to include more natural wines that are classified as low intervention. This means the wines may have fewer additives, organic grapes and are made through sustainable farming or at smaller vineyards.

Because of her experience Ortega said, “We will source wine to sell that is from smaller vineyards, organically grown, hand-picked, things like that.”

Cork + Board will also offer specialty cheeses, charcuterie (dry meats) and quality olives. Grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options will be available.

The wine bar experience will begin in the evenings. Customers will be able to taste different wines and learn about the wines they are drinking, Ortega said.

With the guidance of Kurt Miyazaki, owner of Emporium Wines in Yellow Springs, Ortega said she has been working with Skurnik Wines & Spirits and Wine Trends to bring low intervention wines to Springfield.

“I’m growing and I want to take people on that journey,” Ortega said.

Cork + Board is expected to open in early April with limited hours next to The Painted Pepper in COhatch The Market.

COhatch, a Columbus-based company, is offering a variety of co-working options, private offices, event space, and restaurants in the historic Myers Market building at 101 S. Fountain Ave.

The co-working space and office opened on Monday, but the market portion did not.

Cork + Board will be one of six vendors featured in the market portion of the building that includes Crust & Company, Fresh Abilities, Ironworks Waffle Cafe, North High Brewing, and The Painted Pepper.

Vendors are expected to begin opening next week.

Ortega describes Cork + Board as “a new casual place that people can have a fine wine and food experience. We just wanted to bring a new experience with wine that is simple and casual.”
