Winter is almost over. It may not look like that out your window, but this is my story and I’m sticking with it.

Last week, I reminded parents that even though it seems like winter will go on forever, there is a need to sign up for spring sports before spring arrives. I was pleased to hear that I woke a few of you up from hibernation and pointed you toward spring fun.

This is also time to sign up for 4-H clubs. If your son or daughter wants to be a part of the many 4-H activities this summer like 4-H Camp or the Clark County Fair, now is the time to locate a club and join or to renew membership.

The 4-H membership is open to kids aged 5 and in kindergarten through age 18 as of Jan. 1. Children between 5and 8 years old are called Clover Buds and have their own activities.

Those interested in being a part of 4-H should visit the website at clark.osu.edu to find a club in their school district. Click on “4-H” then on “clubs.” Then select your school district.

There are nearly 30 clubs available to students in the Greenon or Tecumseh districts listed on two pages for each school. Be sure to scroll down to the second page in order to see the names of all the clubs. Contact information for leaders is also included.

The Cloverfield Kick Off for this year’s Clark County 4H is scheduled for March 4. This event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Clark County Fair Grounds Annex and Complex.

All sorts of fun activities are planned in addition to the availability of information and registration forms. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, popcorn will keep the kids full and you can also purchase 4-H shirts. This is the perfect opportunity to see what 4-H is all about and meet some of the leaders.

This event is a great time to learn about 4-H projects, and see sample projects from the past. Not all projects are about farm animals or pets. There is something for everyone. Sewing, photography, foods, clothing, shooting sports, and even archery are included in the huge variety of topics available for projects. New this year at the Cloverfield Kick Off will be an air rifle range. There will as usual be drawings and chances to win prizes.

Talk to the club leaders, go to the Kick Off, select a club that is the best match for your child, and register. Just don’t forget that registration must be completed by April 1.

Step by step as we prepare for spring we are a bit closer each day. Next thing we know Daylight Savings time will start again. I cannot wait.
