Scout’s Cafe is owned by five Clark County-born residents. Its name was chosen by co-owners Tony Bullwinkel and his sister Sarah Bullwinkel in recognition of their beloved childhood pet dog Scout. The pet was named after the female character named Scout in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The interior walls of this coffee shop are murals painted by Brenna Myers in honor of each of those Scout’s influences.

The building Scout’s Cafe now occupies used to be the Northridge neighborhood Dairy Queen for a very long time. Afterward several other businesses worked in the space, and then the structure sat idle for many years. During that time, the owner of the building completely renovated the exterior to resemble a modern log cabin and the interior to become a restaurant; yet, after its completion he decided to rent out the commercial property instead.

Tony and Sarah had the initiative but not the knowledge at that time to properly prepare the space for their vision of a coffee shop, so they partnered with Sarah’s fiance, Michael Blair, and two other business associates to open Scout’s Cafe on March 3 of this year.

Scout’s Cafe sources from many Ohio vendors. The “house”coffee stems from Stauf’s Roasters in Columbus, the fresh bagels arise from Klosterman’s Bakery in Springfield and the special sweet treats ascend from Sweet Sassafras Bake Shop in Northridge to serve you with pleasure.
