Tecumseh honors teachers, grad for contributions to community

The Tecumseh Local Schools Hall of Honor Committee will be inducting three new members into Tecumseh’s Hall of Honor on April 23: Robert Bragg, Marjorie MacKeown and Ron Thomason.

Hall of Fame inductees are selected based on one or more of the following criteria:

• Significant achievement while a student in Tecumseh Local Schools;

• Outstanding achievement in vocational pursuits;

• Outstanding contributions in community or governmental affairs;

• Meritorious recognition for some actions taken.

Inductees are nominated by community members and screened through an application and selection process. The Hall of Honor Committee held its first induction ceremony in 1995 and has coordinated an annual ceremony each year.

The 2010 inductees are being recognized for their work and contributions to the community.

Bragg is being inducted into the Hall of Honor for his actions taken in August 2007, when he apprehended suspects in a case involving the robbery of a store in Dayton in which two employees were murdered.

Bragg, a 2001 graduate of Tecumseh High School, currently serves as a financial adviser assistant for Merrill Lynch.

MacKeown was an English teacher at Tecumseh High School, retiring in 2004. She was highly involved in Muse Machine while at Tecumseh, exposing numerous students to the opera, theater, ballet and visual arts, while also serving as chairwoman of Tecumseh’s English Department.

MacKeown was recognized for her skills as a teacher and mentor by the National Council of Teachers of English when she was selected as the Ohio recipient of the Teacher of Excellence Award in 2004. She currently lives in Dayton and is active in community service.

Thomason was also a former English teacher at Tecumseh High School and was the founding member of the bluegrass band Dry Branch Fire Squad.

Thomason’s contributions to music and to young musicians have set him apart from others in the business. He currently lives in Colorado and visits Ohio and the New Carlisle area each year with his band.

The public is invited to the induction ceremony at 7 p.m. in Pflaumer Auditorium at Tecumseh High School.

Dr. James Gay is the superintendent of Tecumseh Local Schools
