When: 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday

A free event aims to attract families to the Heritage Center of Clark County on Saturday with animals, carnival games, crafts and music.
The Summer Sky festival is sponsored by Family and Children Services of Clark County and has been held for four years. It runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and between 200 and 300 people usually attend.
The primary goal is to provide a summer event for local families, said Pam Meermans, deputy director of Family and Children Services. The event also helps the division recruit people interested in foster care, she said.
“It’s our opportunity to provide positive family fun activities for the community,” Meermans said.
Animals will be featured prominently in the event, including creatures from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery from 1 to 5 p.m., Raptors of the Sky from Glen Helen from 1:30 to 3 p.m., animals from the Columbus Zoomobile from 2 to 3 p.m. and the Bugman from 2 to 4 p.m.
COSI will bring mobile science stations, and a juggling act, inflated bouncing attractions and a craft tent will be open throughout the day. Project Jericho, an art group for at-risk youth, will send a bucket band to play, and a DJ will provide music from 1 to 4 p.m.
All activities will be free except food and drinks. More than 100 prizes will be raffled off during the day, including Reds tickets and school supplies donated by local businesses.
Parking for the event will be available at the Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center parking lot. More information can be found at www.flysummersky.com.
