This scene looking west down East Main Street from Limestone Street shows downtown Springfield decorated for the holidays around 1975.

This was the last winter season for the businesses left on the south side of that East Main Street block. It was demolished the following year to make way for plans laid out for redevelopment by the Core Renewal Corporation. The revitalization plans were made possible through the passage of Issues 7 and 6 in June of 1975, which allowed for a tax increase and required the city to pursue plans for downtown improvement.
