Springfield sheriff accepts drug prevention grant

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly recently accepted the 2016-2017 Drug Use Prevention Grant Award for $53,685.

This grant will be used in the DARE program to fund the salaries of the two full-time deputies assigned to instruction duties of the program in all Clark County schools. Deputies Lisle and Berner instruct the new DARE curriculum to all 1,100 fifth grade students in Clark County schools. The Clark County Sheriff’s DARE program also includes the middle school and high school.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is one of the longest-serving DARE programs in the U.S. The office started the program in 1988 and the first DARE Instructor trained with Los Angeles Police Department officers where the course of instruction began.
