Springfield school gives turkeys to families in need

With the holiday season upon us, some families have a difficult time taking part in all of the holiday festivities. That’s why Fulton Elementary School has helped with their annual Turkey Giveaway.

Fulton teachers, staff members, local businesses and community members donated money and turkeys to be given to students for Thanksgiving. Over the past three years, Fulton has given away more than 200 turkeys, but this week they gave away 126 turkeys, their biggest yet.

“We like to remind students that no matter their circumstances, there’s something to be thankful for,” said Sherry Cross, Fulton’s principal. “And if we can give that happiness here, we’re happy to do it and to make sure their families are fed each year.”

Students are selected via a raffle, with the emphasis on students who are in the most need.

This is the seventh year for the giveaway.
