Springfield restaurants take precautionary steps to prevent spread of coronavirus

Springfield restaurants are taking precautions to keep customers from potential coronavirus exposure.

Le Torte Dolci and Salato Deli are continuing everything they have always done, such as cleaning surfaces consistently with sanitizer, Owner Dan Freeman said.

“I think one of the things that we can do to help customers is try to suggest using credit cards instead of cash,” Freeman said.

He also said he wants to promote online ordering.

“I’m guessing, just based on what is happening, people will eat in less and less, so we want to make sure people know that they can still get quality food from a clean place and not have to deal with very many people — if they don’t want to,” Freeman said.

Online ordering is available through Le Torte Dolci’s Facebook page and Salato Deli has an online ordering system through its website.

Freeman said his wife, Lisa, checks their kitchens daily to verify cleanliness. If she has any concerns, she will inform their employees of things to be changed.

He has plans to make cleanliness visible to customers by providing customers supplies to wipe down things on their own.

“We have high standards as it is,” Freeman said.

He encourages people to check the Clark County Combined Health District’s website to see how restaurants are performing from the health standpoint before choosing where to eat.

Un Mundo Cafe will continue precautionary efforts by providing disinfectant and hand-sanitizer to its customers, owner Duke Level said.

“We won’t submit to fear or panic,” Level said. “We will be much more diligent at washing our hands.”

He explained that every night all main surfaces are cleaned with a disinfectant spray, including the kitchen and customer seating areas.

“We will do everything we can,” Level said.

Fratelli's Famiglia Ristorante said in a Facebook post that the staff is taking every precaution necessary.

“You may see extra cleaning supplies around the restaurant — we are working diligently to provide the cleanest environment we can for you to come and enjoy some Italian comfort food,” the post said.

According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food.”
