Springfield resident, businessman Federer announces run for auditor

SPRINGFIELD — Local businessman and Republican John Federer is running for Clark County auditor, the first to file for the office.

Federer, a 34-year bank executive and founder of Apollo Performance Consulting LLC, filed with the Board of Elections Monday, Feb. 2.

A Columbus native who has lived in Springfield since 1981, Federer said he hadn’t considered running for office until recently.

“When I was asked, I assessed it and said this really fits nicely with what I’m good at,” he said. “There are so many problems with the efficiency, functionality and constituent trust about our real estate valuation.”

Federer referred to the county’s 2007 mass revaluation under Auditor George Sodders as a “debacle.”

A record-breaking 2,836 property value appeals were filed after the 2007 $1.2 million revaluation, which was found to have errors and inconsistencies among property values.

Federer’s said his primary goals are to create a “best in class” county auditor’s office that leads the state, assist and allow employees within the auditor’s office to work well together and establish proactive communication with the community.

“I’m the guy,” he said. “I’m the guy to fix it.”

Federer is so far unopposed in the May primary election; the filing deadline is Feb. 18.
