The Red Lobster location in Springfield was in the top five percent of Red Lobster restaurants in the United States and Canada in both sales and customer growth, according to the local store’s sales manager.

The restaurant located on West 1st Street received top honors from the national seafood chain for growing both its customer base and local sales by 7 percent during the 2018 fiscal year that ended in May, according to Don Coppock, the Springfield location’s sales manager.

The store is receiving a company Lighthouse Club award for the growth, Coppock said. The store also saw a dramatic increase in take-out orders, which increased by 58 percent during the last fiscal year, he added.

This is the third time that the Springfield location has received the award over the past 10 years. The store was placed into the top five percent of stores in North America in 2011 and again in 2014, Coppock told the News-Sun.

Coppock said Red Lobster has approximately 715 restaurants in the United States and Canada. Springfield location General Manager Mary Varney was also nominated for a Legacy Award that is given out in each of the chain’s divisions.

The division containing the Springfield location has 97 Red Lobster restaurants and the Legacy award is given to those who have been at the same location for more than five years and exhibit strong leadership, said Coppock.

Varney has been with the company for 29 years and the Springfield location opened in 1997.
