“Everybody’s still going to receive a paper bill,” Mauch said.
For now, you can’t opt out of getting that paper bill even if you want to. But “for $3, it’ll save you a trip to the box,” he said.
Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards will be accepted, Mauch said, when the city finalizes the system and links to it from several places on the city’s website.
Someone wishing to use the system, which will be online in the coming weeks, will pay $3 per payment for bills up to $100, and larger fees for larger bills. An account number will be needed to sign up.
Some banks with online banking services also have the capability to pay utility bills, Mauch said — often for free.
