Springfield man reports being held at gunpoint at Wittenberg

A Springfield man filed a report with the Springfield Police Division saying three men entered his vehicle and threatened him with a handgun on Wittenberg University’s campus around 9:30 Saturday night.

The man told police he was driving a black Ford Expedition when he stopped at a stop sign. The man told police a suspect in a black ski mask and white hooded sweatshirt approached the SUV from the driver’s side as he proceeded through the stop sign. The man told police the suspect pointed a gun at him and told him to unlock the doors, and two other men also entered the vehicle.

The man told police the suspects told him to drive but did not provide any further directions. The vehicle eventually passed two Wittenberg Police vehicles in a parking lot who initiated a traffic stop. The three suspects then fled the vehicle on foot.

The man told police he was not injured and was unable to provide any further information about the suspects. No charges were filed due to a lack of information about the suspects.

Wittenberg police confirmed they did stop the vehicle, but said the Springfield Police Division is investigating the case and said few additional details are available until the investigation is complete.
