Springfield man allegedly molested children

John Voorhees, 60, of Springfield was indicted by grand jury on Monday.

SPRINGFIELD — A 60-year-old man has been charged with six counts of gross sexual imposition for allegedly molesting three girls under the age of 10.

John Voorhees of Springfield was indicted on the felony charges by a Clark County grand jury on Monday.

According to Springfield police, Voorhees knew the victims. The incidents date back to January. An 8-year-old victim told officers he pretended he was going to give her a hug and then shoved his hands down her pants, according to a police report.

Neighbors said they were surprised to hear Voorhees was arrested.

“The man should be locked up and put away because I got four girls of my own, and personally if it was me, I would lock him up myself,” said Christina Trimble, who said she’s seen Voorhees around the neighborhood.

Voorhees has no criminal record in Clark County. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges today in Clark County Common Pleas Court, according to the clerk of courts.
