Springfield cafe teaming up with local food trucks

Scout’s Cafe, a coffee shop in the Northridge neighborhood, is teaming up with local food trucks to provide residents with a variety of options that they might not get otherwise.

This weekend there will be two food trucks at Scout’s Cafe - Kleinfelder’s Hots and Brats from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Painted Pepper from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

“We team up with food trucks because we want to focus on coffee,” Sarah Bullwinkel, one of the five co-owners said. “This leaves us free to do what we do best with our full effort into that.”

Having local food trucks at the coffee shop was always a goal of the co-owners.

“People come out for coffee and grab food, or come for food and grab coffee,” Bullwinkel said. “It’s a mutually beneficial relationship.”

As the weather becomes warmer, Scout’s Cafe will get back into a food truck rotation with EAT, Springfield’s 2019 Best Food Truck winner, and Schmidt’s, a Columbus-based food truck.

A food truck that sells Hungarian cabbage rolls, Mom Andrasik’s, is at Scout’s Cafe on most Monday evenings.

“Our goal for Scout’s is simple, and has been from day one: Invest in the community and the community will invest in us,” Bullwinkel said. “We’ll all grow together with some great coffee as fuel.”

The Chamber of Greater Springfield presented Scout’s Cafe with the “Best Coffeehouse of 2019” award in October.

Along with lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and smoothies, the coffee shop features fresh-baked pastries like cinnamon rolls.

Scout’s Cafe is located at 1399 Moorefield Road in Springfield and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 937-505-0660 or search for Scout’s Cafe on Facebook.
