He is taking a new position as executive director for the Food Bank of South-Central Michigan in Battle Creek, Mich.
“It’s a bigger food bank, bigger territory, bigger challenge,” said Williams, whose last day was Friday.
Williamson said the job offer came out of left field.
“I had heard about it and then asked about it and then I interviewed and waited for a while, but it went quiet, so I wasn’t counting on it,” he said. “I finally got a call and went up and spent a few days there and talked to a few people and they liked what I had to say, so they gave me the job.”
In his time as director at Second Harvest, Williamson said the organization added a big freezer, large cooler, mobile food pantry and volunteer work center, and completed an agency pickup zone. He also said they saw another delivery truck donated during his time.
“I would just like to say that we value Keith’s contribution to Second Harvest Food Bank for the last 16 years,” said Kelly Anchrum, director of marketing and communications at Catholic Charities. “He’s improved our capabilities and operations, enabling us to serve the poor in the upper valley, and we wish him all the best as he pursues a new opportunity in the same field.”
Bill Carpenter, volunteer coordinator at Second Harvest Food Bank, is serving as the interim director until a replacement can be found for Williamson. Anchrum said Second Harvest has already advertised the open position and begun the search for a new director.
“I want to thank all of the people of Springfield for supporting the food bank and hope they continue to support it,” Williamson said. “I’ve been happy to support the hungry people of the community, and I’m looking forward to feeding more people in Michigan.”
