The resident then struck the man in the back of the head with the bat. The man dropped the DVD player and sped off across High Street through a church parking lot and an alley. The resident told police he hit the intruder hard enough to crack the bat.
When the resident returned to his home he discovered his wife’s jewelry, including a diamond wedding band, was also stolen.
Man arrested
Ronald Serna, 767 Farlow St., was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, on charges of violating a protection order after he allegedly drove by the house, prohibited by the protection order.

•Sarah K. Brown, 27, of 709 W. Main St., was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2:37 a.m. on charges of domestic violence and assault, according to a report by the Springfield Police Division. She was accused of punching a woman she knew in the head at her home.

•A woman in the 2000 block of South Limestone Street reported someone entered her home between 6:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, according to a report by the Springfield Police Division. A television and video games systems were reported stolen. The items were valued at $1,400.
•A man in the 800 block of West North Street reported someone broke into his home between 9 and 11:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, according to a report by the Springfield Police Division. Video game systems, coins and games were reported stolen, according to the report. The items were valued at $1,250.
