An initial investigation found a silver Ford Focus, driven by Santos, was traveling behind a red Toyota Rav 4 SUV, driven by Kidd. Both vehicles were traveling north on Ohio 49, according to investigators.

The Focus attempted to pass the Rav 4, but was unable to make the pass before crashing into a semitrailer, nearly head-on, and the Rav 4.

The crash sent the Rav 4 directly into the path of a fourth vehicle, a green Ford Escape, and caused the Rav 4 to roll into a ditch.

The driver of Escape, identified as Todd Archey, 41, of Ansonia, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital North and was treated and released, state troopers said.

The driver of the semitrailer, Matthew Bugg, 48, of Urbana, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Potential charges in the crash are pending the results of toxicology tests and the crash reconstruction report, according to state troopers.

Additional details were not available.
