Proof of residency to be required for licenses

SPRINGFIELD — Beginning Oct. 8, residents statewide will have to show proof of their residence when applying for a driver’s license or state identification.

According to information from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, residents trying to apply for a new license, replace a lost license or make an address change on a license will need to provide documents proving their residential street address.

This will impact residents obtaining temporary permits, driver’s licenses, commercial driver’s licenses, motorcycle endorsements and State of Ohio ID cards.

Examples of acceptable documents to prove residency include automobile insurance, checking or savings account statement within the last 60 days, or a utility bill issued within the last 60 days, among others.
