Plane crash victim Hausfeld to get posthumous degree from UD

DAYTON – Kacie Hausfeld, who died in a Springboro plane crash April 1, will receive a posthumous degree when University of Dayton students graduate Sunday, May 2.

Hausfeld, who was a junior in the university’s early childhood education program, died along with her father Tom who piloted the plane.

Officials from the National Transportation and Safety Board said engine failure and an open compartment contributed to the crash at Springboro’s Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. Tom Hausfeld had turned back to the runway after reporting an open compartment when he had engine trouble, investigators said.

Commencement is 9:45 a.m. Sunday at UD Arena where 1,300 undergraduates are expected to receive diplomas.
