OVI checkpoint to be set up tonight

An OVI checkpoint will be manned by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officers on Wednesday night at North and Center streets.

Ohio had seven alcohol-related deaths on roadways during Thanksgiving weekend in 2010, according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Several law enforcement agencies will participate in the checkpoint, said Lt. Matt Cleaveland, commander of the Springfield patrol post, including police from Springfield and Enon, county sheriff’s deputies, troopers and some medical personnel.

“There were 415 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 462 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Cleaveland said in a news release.
