Ohio House urges shuttle assignment to Air Force Museum

COLUMBUS — The Ohio House on Tuesday approved a resolution urging President Obama and NASA to transfer one of the to-be-retired space shuttles to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force for display.

The measure passed unanimously, said state Sen. Chris Widener, R-Springfield.

Ohio’s congressional delegation has made the same request, in repeated letters to the White House and NASA.

NASA has promised the orbiter Discovery to the Smithsonian Institution, leaving the fate of shuttles Atlantis and Endeavour to be decided. NASA Administrator Charles Bolden has said he will announce on April 12 where the shuttles are to go.

Obama’s fiscal 2012 budget allocates $14 million to prepare and deliver Atlantis to the Air Force Museum, located on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
