ODOT to buy 5K tons of road salt from Morton

The Ohio Department of Transportation has reached agreement to buy up to 5,000 tons of additional road salt from Morton.

The salt will be available from Morton's Detroit stockpile at a price of $43 a ton ($215,000) that will be valid until March 31 or while supplies last, ODOT said in a letter dated Feb. 18.

The letter of agreement was made public Thursday afternoon.

Many local authorities in the Dayton and southwest Ohio region have said they have attempted to order more salt for weeks or even months, but the supply just isn't there.

ODOT officials said on Feb. 14 that their attempt to buy more salt and distribute it to municipalities in need was met with not a single bid from suppliers.

We will update this developing story as we get more details.
