New Carlisle Heritage of Flight: 5 things to check out

New Carlisle will be the place to be this weekend as it hosts the 12th annual Heritage of Flight Festival. If you’re a regular participant or its your first time attending the festival, here are 5 things you should know before you soar up to New Carlisle.

Aircraft on display:

Over two dozen aircraft will take part in the festival’s parade. The Shriners, a staple of the festival, will accompany the planes with their various cars and motorcycles. The parade will be on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

Annual events:

At 4 p.m. Friday, the annual cruise-in will take place, where as many as 900 vintage cars will be on display.

For those who enjoy a nice run or walk, the festival's events on Saturday will kick off with the annual 5K run and walk. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m., with the 5K beginning at 8:30 a.m. The cost for the race is $20 in advance and $25 on race day. Registration forms can be found on the Heritage of Flight website.

Highlights:

This year, the festival will continue its Blessing of the Badges ceremony, where organizers will honor first responders and military personnel. The program was introduced last year and received a positive response.

Food Selections:

There will be no shortage of food items at the festival. Some of the selections include Nacho Pig, Deep Fried Heaven and Rudy’s Smokehouse.
