Antiques have become a tradition in Springfield, as well as a tradition in the Knight family.
Abbey Knight, daughter of the founder of the Springfield Antique Show and Flea Market, will be attempting to further enrich that tradition by hosting the Knight’s Antique and Vintage Fair’s first Ohio White Tent Event this weekend.
The first-time event will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Heart of Ohio Antique Center, 4785 E National Road.
Knight said that since both of her parents, Bruce and Vivalyn Knight, were antique dealers, she grew up around the business.
“I’ve always wanted a show of my own,” Knight said.
Bruce Knight ran the Springfield Antique Show and Flea Market for 31 years before selling it in 1999. By the 1990s, it had over 2,500 vendors.
Now, Bruce and Vivalyn Knight own the Heart of Ohio Antique Center. Abbey Knight owns Knight’s Antique and Vintage Fair, which is held on the property of Heart of Ohio.
Knight said instead of being a flea market-type event, the White Tent Event will be more selective. The vendors were chosen based on quality, product variety, originality and display.
“I know hundreds of vendors from across the country and I hand-picked the ones that would be good for the show,” Knight said.
The show will include vendors selling items such as folk art, candles, jewelry and reproduction furniture. There will be over 80 vendors selling antiques from the early 1800s to the mid-20th century. In addition, the show will have gourmet food vendors, fresh produce and live music.
The show is located in Heart of Ohio’s outdoor area. General admission is $5. Anyone interested in beating the crowd can view the antiques early at the special buyer’s preview Friday from 5-8 p.m. for $20.
