“We are facing several million dollars more in cuts that we have to make to the budget,” said Claire Wagner, Miami spokeswoman. “We hope that by some staff taking advantage of this program, we will reduce what we need to cut from our budget.”
More than 70 employees participated in a previous retirement incentive. Since then, several staff members have asked for it to be offered again, officials said.
This plan will provide another 100 employees with the same opportunity.
“Participating in the program is wholly voluntary,” said Kate Stoss, director of compensation, employment and technology.
University officials discussed repeating the incentive program with leadership of the governance groups on campus.
Applications for the retirement incentive will be accepted through Sept. 14.
The retirement incentive does not include the purchase of any service credit.
Miami has no plans to adopt an early retirement incentive plan, under the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System, now or in the foreseeable future, university officials said.
