McGregor picks new company president

Springfield-based group has four local businesses with more than 300 workers.

McGregor Metalworking Companies, a locally-owned manufacturer, has appointed Tom Wright as its new president of the five-facility organization, which employs more than 300 people.

Wright replaces former President and CEO Dane Belden, who retired in March.

McGregor Metalworking is made up of companies in Ohio and South Carolina that work in metal stamping, machining, robotic welding, assembly and more. Locally, the companies are: Morgal Machine Tool Company, Rose City Manufacturing, Ohio Stamping and Machine LLC, and Carmichael Machine Corporation. SC Metal Products is located in Aiken, SC.

The company currently employs 334 full-time workers at its five facilities, including 38 temporary workers and four summer interns.

“Our search committee had very specific criteria for our new president, and after carefully vetting a number of very strong candidates, we believe we have found a great fit for our organization,” said Dan McGregor, chairman of McGregor Metalworking Companies in a press release. “Tom brings a unique combination of operational experience and industry knowledge to us that will benefit the continued development of our business.”

Wright is a Michigan native who holds degrees from both Ferris State (Mich.) and the Florida Institute of Technology. He most recently served as the plant director at Gestamp Automocion in Vance, Ala., a Tier-1 supplier that produced parts for Mercedes SUV. He’s also worked for United Technologies Automotive, Lear Corporation, Talon Automotive and Tower Automotive.

“I am excited to have joined such a great organization with an impressive customer base,” Wright said. “The culture and unique set of assets are impressive and have us positioned quite well.”

McGregor announced last year it will create 60 new positions at its facilities in the next few years.
