Looking for something to do? Summer full of events in New Carlisle

There is no need to wait for the solstice to start summer.

Now that the Dry Branch Fire Squad has made its annual appearance at Smith Park in New Carlisle, school is out, the pool is open, we’ve had our first heat wave, and the library summer reading program is well underway.

Summer is here.

Two more things must happen this coming weekend to make summer of 2016 totally official — The New Carlisle Farmers Market and the Community Garage Sale.

The New Carlisle Community Garage Sale begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and goes until 5 p.m. For three years this event has been growing and this one is already shaping up to be the biggest yet.

City residents who want to register their address for the directory for the sale should call 937-845-9492. This event is sponsored by the city of New Carlisle, the Western Clark County Business Coalition and the New Carlisle Farmers Market.

The New Carlisle Farmers Market also starts at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. This weekend is the first market of the summer and will feature Security National Bank, music by Marianne Kesler, painting with Sip ‘N Dipity and visiting author Collene Miller. The market is open until 1 p.m.

This year the market will also accept the WIC/SNAP programs. A nice map directory and schedule can be found on its website, buyclarkcounty.com/market/.

Every Saturday the market will feature something different.

June 25 is Welcome to Wellville featuring Creating Healthy Communities, music by Kids Helping Kids and a 1.5 mile fun walk.

Salsa Fest is planned for July 2, featuring La Condesa Authentic Food and visiting author Meaghan Fisher.

July 9 features Bethel Churches United and music by Paul Race.

Christmas in July is celebrated at the July 16 Farmers Market with Santa Claus arriving on a fire truck. Music will be provided by the Bell Choir. Visiting author will be Connie Chappell.

July 23 will feature Family and Youth Initiatives and music by Silver Grass.

On July 30 the market will celebrate furry friends. April’s Pet Grooming and Blue House Farms Alpacas will be featured. Music will be by Gretchen Mitchel and visiting author will be Christy Sturtz.

Aug. 6 will be full of Arrow spirit featuring Tecumseh High School and the Arrow Store. Music will be by Gates of Praise. Music on Aug. 13 will be by Timmy G. & Co.

Aug. 20 will feature Bethel Churches United again, author Amber Morant and music by Silver Grass.

The Fair at New Boston will be featured on Aug. 27. Music by Colin Richards and visiting author Linda Locke will round out the day.

Themes for the markets on Sept. 3 and 10 haven’t been chosen.

So when that summer solstice finally comes around on Monday, June 20, New Carlisle can say we are already there. Enjoy and don’t forget the sunscreen.
